After several attempts to escape in the Tour of Qatar, the Italian champion has performed well in the village hardest (uphill finish in Jabal Al Akhdar) east of the race. He won the Dutch Rabobank's Robert Gesink with 44 "lead over Boasson Hagen, and the runner Devenyns Sicily.
